"Twilight" Deleted Scenes and more

"So when I participated in a roundtable interview yesterday with Director Catherine Hardwicke for “Twilight” the one question I wanted to ask was about the upcoming DVD/Blu-ray. Thankfully, she was more than willing to talk about the subject and she says there are about 12 deleted/extended scenes and they’ll be a separate section on the DVD and not an extended edition. Catherine: Actually, I have been working on the DVD already. So we put together all the deleted scenes and extended scenes, there's quite a few, like 12 or something like that. And then I made some montages of some other crazy elements, like more vampire kiss, biting. And more human hijinks. And I made a pretty wild music video, like a remix of Bella's Lullaby and I did some pretty trippy things that you may like.Speaking of deleted scenes, and I'm sure fans want to know, what's the length of stuff that was cut out of the film? Is it any of the special effects stuff or is it dialogue scenes? Could you talk a little about what you cut?Catherine: Well, for example the diner. You know, the first day after school, where you go see Bella and Charlie and talking about their awkward meeting and stuff, that scene was about twice when we shot it. And so it kind of slowed down the pace …and it’s still cool, but it just kind of kept going. (she makes a cutting sound) So we just put the whole thing on the DVD. There were times when Esme and Dr. Cullen make a comment on how Bella's brought Edward to life, it was kind of in the middle of the tree top sequence, and you kind of just wanted to stay with Edward and Bella. So you'll see that. And there's a little bit more sexiness with the bad vampires. A little kissing and biting, nyah, nyah, nyah. Source: www.collider.com

Nikki Reed, Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and director Catherine Hardwicke.

Read the partial draft of "Midnight Sun: Edward's Version of Twilight" by Stephenie Meyer.

"Stewart can certainly pull off the look and is a fair actress by most accounts, but I'm going to find it hard to bridge her swooning Bella character in Twilight and the badass, ballsy rocker Jett, who went on to sing "I Love Rock and Roll." Of course, this is great news for Stewart and her career, but I wonder how fans of Jett and The Runaways will take this news.
During the time of the five-girl band, Jett played guitar and actually achieved further success in her own right after the band dissolved 1979. Though The Runaways were only active for four years, they certainly made a mark in the industry and arguably paved the way for artists down the line. The group disbanded amidst money and management disagreements. The film is said to center on Jett and Curie, and detail the rise and fall of the group who brought us, amongst other hits, "Cherry Bomb".What other actress might compliment Stuart and fit with Currie's personality? Maybe Evan Rachel Wood? That would be ironic since she dated Marilyn Manson for quite some time, but she would completely kill Stuart in terms of ability.Maybe Kirsten Dunst is more of an equitable pairing to Stuart, though not a rocker in the least? Who do you think would make a good Cherrie Currie? Source: www.firstshowing.net

Reworking the script of Untitled Moon Project

"Black Hawk Down" screenwriter Ken Nolan has been brought on to rework the script for Paramount's untitled moon project.Nolan is the latest writer to bring his take to an action film about lunar colonization that has Jake Gyllenhaal attached to star.

Doug Liman, who is producing and directing the film, wrote an original screenplay with John Hamburg ("I Love You, Man"). "Black Hawk Down" book author Mark Bowden revamped that script, then Dan Mazeau did a new version off material compiled from the story work of Liman, Bowden and Simon Kinberg, who also is producing". Jake Gyllenhaal at SBIFF 2009 David Fincher Tribute

Jake Gyllenhaal says some words about director David Fincher at Santa Barbara International Film festival.

Mysterious blonde at Caffe Luxxe

"He wasn't there for the coffee, but Jake Gyllenhaal was deep in conversation with a mystery blonde at his favorite hangout, Caffe Luxxe on Montana Avenue in Santa Monica. Dressed down in a grey T-shirt and jeans, the actor appeared to be interviewing his companion, onlookers say. The two chatted for 30 minutes and left separately without ordering anything".

I only hope that "mysterious blonde" wasn't our darling Reese, if not somebody is out of the loop! Although Reese was busy that same day shopping with her mom:

Ledger's family would accept the Oscar

"If Heath Ledger wins the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor on Feb. 22, his family will accept the award on his behalf, Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan told EW.com at the DGA Awards Saturday night. Nolan accepted Ledger's Golden Globe award on Jan. 8, and Ledger's Dark Knight costar Gary Oldman took the stage on behalf of the young actor at the SAG Awards on Jan. 25. Nolan did not elaborate on which members of Ledger's family would accept should Ledger win, but previous family statements have been made by Ledger's father, Kim, mother, Sally, and older sister Kate, and it's possible all three would step to the front of the Kodak on Oscar night".

Christian Bale's meltdown

"You may remember that Christian Bale went nuts on the set of "Terminator Salvation" a few months back, threatening to stop production and beat some serious ass.

The incident was audiotaped, and it's amazing. It happened on the set after a director of photography accidentally ruined a scene by walking onto the set. Bale lost it, screaming, yelling and threatening to quit if the bosses didn't fire the dude.

Film execs sent the tape to the insurance company that insured the film in case Bale bailed."

Oscar voters forgot "Zodiac"

"Award fates didn't seem to matter Friday night as Fincher, just back from the Japanese launch of his movie, clearly had the Arlington crowd in the palm of his hand, even doing an amusing impression of his "Zodiac" cinematographer Harris Savides and another time jumping excitedly out of his chair to make a point. Unlike Rourke he watched all the film segments including a killer reel of his commercial and music video work. Seeing all his career achievements in one fell swoop like this proves Fincher really is the master director of the moment with consistently spectacular work in "Seven", "Panic Room", "Fight Club" and the one-two punch of "Benjamin Button" and "Zodiac", a March 2007 release that Oscar voters seemed to forget". His "Zodiac" star Jake Gyllenhaal made a special appearance to praise Fincher as did "Button's" Oscar-nominated Supporting Actress Taraji P. Henson".

Shutting down Guantanamo, Rendition

"Barack Obama has granted the CIA permission to continue carrying out the controversial Bush-era practice of extraordinary rendition, it has emerged.

And he did so just two days after becoming president and vowing to dismantle his predecessor's war on terror.

As the new U.S. President issued orders shutting down the American military prison at Guantanamo Bay and fought to show the Muslim world that 'America is not your enemy', it was revealed that the renditions programme may even be expanded.

Under executive orders signed by Mr Obama on January 22, two days after his inauguration, the CIA still has the authority to carry out renditions - secret abductions and transfers of prisoners to countries that cooperate with the United States. It even became the subject of a Hollywood film starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon. But despite the controversy surrounding the secretive practice, Mr Obama appears to have decided it was the one component of Mr Bush's war on terror that it must keep.

'Obviously you need to preserve some tools - you still have to go after the bad guys,' an Obama administration official told the LA Times.

'The legal advisors working on this looked at rendition. It is controversial in some circles and kicked up a big storm in Europe. But if done within certain parameters, it is an acceptable practice.' Source: www.dailymail.co.uk

"Rendition and temporary detention are tools in that effort - tools that now need to be as closely monitored and assessed as they were once recklessly abused".

Jennifer and Kirsten, caring their looks?

"Jennifer Aniston has snubbed a record-breaking $4 million offer–including a percentage deal that could have brought the price to $10 million–to recreate her nude January 2009 GQ cover photo for men’s mag giant Playboy.Playboy approached the former Friends star after the recent photoshoot, in which she posed in her birthday suit except for an appropriately placed necktie". "In response to complaints that she has gotten for her increasingly frumpy appearance, Kirsten Dunst confessed that she actually "couldn't care less" about the way she looks.

"I don't have the energy to care if people criticize the way I look", the 26 year-old actress tells Britain's OK!. "I'm over getting dressed up, although it's fun sometimes -- like when my younger brother Christian and I got ready together to go to the Oscars. But other than that, though, I couldn't care less. Being fun is way better than being beautiful. I would rather entertain people."
Dunst is expected to reprise her role as Mary Jane Watson in Spider-Man 4. Source: www.radaronline.com

Fincher: A big brain and a big heart

“So many people are making stories about heroes, I make the stories about perverts,” he commented. When asked by Hammond how does he feel after viewing his body of work, Fincher said, “I wonder if I should be in therapy more.”

A humble, bright, and funny guy, Fincher charmed the Santa Barbara audience with his wit and humor. In final remarks by actor Jake Gyllenhaal, he said, “I want to tell you a secret about David Fincher. He has a big brain and a big heart.” (we could tell!) Kudos to another outstanding artist to feature at the Film Festival!

G.I. Joe: The rise of Cobra

"Yesterday we got our first look at the new SuperBowl movie trailer for G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and today we get to see what Joseph Gordon-Levitt (who plays master villain Cobra Commander) will look like in the film … kinda. Until now, the secret about Cobra Commander in this film has been on lock down but this weekend, new bio cards for some of the G.I. Joe characters have made their way to the Internets, including Cobra characters Storm Shadow, Zartan and The Doctor:One of these characters is JGL, I understand, as he will be seen thruout much of the film … but by the end of the movie he becomes Cobra Commander. As I recall, the man who eventually becomes Cobra Commander was a scientist who suffered a freak accident that destroyed his face, which left him mad, bitter and was required to wear a mask to cover his entire head".

'GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra' SuperBowl Commercial

According to information about the film both official and unofficial, The Doctor will eventually become Cobra Commander … who is played by Joesph Gordon-Levitt. In the comics, tho, The Doctor becomes Dr. Mindbender — the mad scientist who created Serpentor, the emperor of Cobra who replaces Cobra Commander as leader after he is deposed … but I’m getting way off topic. In any event, it appears that The Doctor and Cobra Commander are one and the same, at least in this new movie. Zartan, as you may or may not know, had chameleon-like abilities to change color in sunlight (his action figure did the same) and was a formidable master of disguise". Source: pinkisthenewblog.com

A win for "Milk"?

"If Slumdog does in fact stumble between now and February 17 (the last day for Oscar voters to turn in their ballots), Milk looks like it's best positioned to capitalize on the stumble. In addition to it being incredibly well-respected within the community of voters who make up the Academy, there are two main factors that could help propel the film to glory on Oscar night.

1) Milk Is Still Building Momentum - As Anne Thompson sagely reports, over at Variety, Focus Features has taken the slow-and-steady approach to building their Oscar campaign for Milk. Whereas their campaign for Brokeback Mountain in 2005 crested too early, Milk is only now going into wide release. If the movie can perform strongly this weekend, it will be top-of-mind for Academy voters as they begin casting their ballots.
2) A Win for Milk Helps Ease the Sting of the Brokeback Snub - As we mention above, Crash was able to overtake Brokeback Mountain in the Best Picture race in 2005. Some attribute this upset to the belief that some of the older ranks of the Academy held strong anti-gay beliefs, an assertion that Rope of Silicon brings up in a post that breaks down this year's Oscar race. In their eyes, a vote for Milk could help to reestablish the Academy as a place where tolerance prevails above all else".
